Presenting the combined talent of DJ Hamish Lardi and renowned musician Emma Kelly (aka Happyaxe) on violin, don’t be surprised when you suddenly find yourself dancing to their unique sound. Emma has performed at festivals including the Woodford Folk Festival and Groovin the Moo, attended the 2015 New York City Musical Saw Festival as the guest of honour and was nominated for best live instrumentalist in the National Live Music Awards last year. You can find Hamish playing at a variety of Canberra’s finest nightlife establishments to playing at some of Canberra’s most iconic events, including Fashfest and the Black Opal Races.
In Full Swing (IFS) is Canberra's most entertaining Big Band, consisting of 22 highly skilled and fun musicians who reside in and around the Canberra region. The band was formed in 1991, and has an extensive repertoire of music from the big band era of the 1930-40s, right through to contemporary funk, rock and Latin songs, as well as those by re-emergent artists such as Michael Bublé and Royal Crown Review. In Full Swing also features both male and female vocalists, who add incredible intensity, pizzazz and talent to our ensemble.
Canberra Brass presents highly entertaining music drawing on the flexibility in style and repertoire available to a leading contemporary brass band. Formed in 1984 in Hall and now based at the Canberra City Band Hall at Watson, over the last decade it has won contests at the State and national level.
It owes much of its success to the early musical leadership of Tom Russell, Les Alley, Stan Galloway, Les Smith and Peter Robertson, and more recently, musical directors Thomas Burge, Aaron Madden and Colin Fischer MBE. Its current musical director is Viv Martin.
Not to blow our own horn, but Canberra City Band is a pretty great organization to be a part of, and a nationally recognized A-grade concert band.
CCB offers players a fun and social environment to make music in their spare time, and also provides opportunities to play in the community and compete at the state and national level. Drumming since 2005, Wayne and his wife Miriam have embraced and shared all facets of West African Music, from playing djembe and dunduns to building them for himself and others in the Canberra region. Tanamasi is a traditional Malinke greeting which literally translates to “did you sleep without evil”. This music dates back about 700 years, and Tanamasi strives to play it the old way, with some modern touches but still honoring the importance of music to life in Africa, accompanying births, deaths, marriages and all celebrations.
The Groove Warehouse Steel band is Canberra’s own pan drumming group bringing the music of Trinidad and Tobago. Run to the upbeat drum rhythm and tropical sounds straight from the Caribbean.
